My e38 7 series started having electrical issues. Cruise control would turn off intermittently, rear brakes would stay on, srs air bag would not reset, lighter socket had no power etc. After some troubleshooting and doing the visor test where you turn the ignition on to position one and flip down the sun visor and open the mirror. If the steering column moves up its likely a bad ignition switch. I know you're asking what?! But the forums were true did thay test after confirming my brake switch wasn't the issue. Swapped in the new ignition switch and all is good. Oem switch lasted 200k miles let's see if ths last half that all good.
