The SV831DVIU 8-Port 1U Rack Mount DVI USB KVM Switch lets you control up to 8 USB-connected computers (each with DVI or HDMI display output) from a single keyboard, mouse and monitor. The KVM switch offers maximum control, allowing you to switch computers using hot-key commands or front panel push-buttons. Supporting digital resolutions up to 1920x1200 via DVI or HDMI connection (using DVI to HDMI adapter - see accessories), the KVM provides the high resolutions recommended for newer displays, allowing you to take full advantage of your monitor/screen capability. A perfect addition to any server room or software test lab, this 8-port switch can be rack-mounted into 1U of cabinet space. This product is TAA compliant and backed by a Startech.com 3-year warranty with free lifetime technical support. Note: This KVM supports digital signals only, and cannot be used with DVI-to-VGA adapters.

StarTech's 8 Port Rack Mount DVI USB KVM Switch (SV831DVIU) is a great device for fairly large server rack installs. It allows you to switch between multiple systems and use only one keyboard/mouse and other devices.The construction is very solid. It's a great piece. The buttons are firm and all the connections are solid. I tried this on multiple connection types. I often have trouble with KVM switches when various video sources are required. With straight DVI connections (with the servers have DVI), the SV831DVIU seemed to perform very well. When adapters or other video sources (HDMI) are used, I had mixed results. Some would display fine or display at odd resolutions. Some would also have trouble switching back and you could not obtain video back. It's a common issue among most KVM switches I've used. The keyboard and mouse support seemed to work flawlessly though. This is a great setup for certain environments and with some testing and troubleshooting, it could be a great product for your rack.
